Mr. Sanderfer attended University of Texas at Austin, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Journalism/Public Relations in 1982. He then obtained a Juris Doctor from The Thomas Cooley Law School in 1989.

Mr. Sanderfer began his legal career as a bailiff/law clerk for a circuit court while attending law school full time. After passing the bar, he joined Army where he served in the Judge Advocate General's Corp where he served as a prosecutor, criminal defense attorney and held a position where he was the legal liaison between the Military and American Embassy in Honduras. Steve left the army in 1996 as a Captain.

Mr. Sanderfer was elected to three times as a city councilman for the City of Lancaster, Texas. In 2003, Steve joined Texas State Guard as Brigadier General Marshall Scantlin's Judge Advocate. Steve is currently a Major in Texas State Guard, and is enrolled in the Command General Staff College.
